Hyperhidrosis treatment
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is commonly known as 'excessive sweating ', whereby sufferers experience far more sweating than is necessary to maintain normal body temperature. It can occur in many different areas of the body and effect both men and woman equally.
The procedure for treating hyperhidrosis
After a full consultation at Serenity Therapies in Tunbridge Wells, I will apply an aesthetic cream before injecting muscle relaxants into the affected areas. The relaxants work by entering the sweat glands and blocking the impulses that cause them to secrete moisture.
The treatment usually takes between 30-45 minutes. Typically results are noticable within 10 days with a reduction of sweating.
This procedure is not a cure for hyperhidrosis. As the nerve endings regrow, the sweating returns but at this stage you should receive top-up injections to start the cycle again, keeping the area dry.
Benefits of treatment for hyperhidrosis
Excessive sweating is a common problem which can cause embarrassment at work and in your social life as well as ruining your clothes. One treatment can last for several months giving you the confidence to get on with your life.
Potential side effects from the treatment of hyperhidrosis
Since the muscle relaxant only stays in the body for a maximum of six months, any side effects associated with the medication will diminish after that time period. The common side effects include nausea, flu syndrome, respiratory infection, forehead and eyelid drooping, and headache.
Less common Botox risks include symptoms that are generally associated with the injection. These include redness, pain, swelling, numbness, bruising, muscle weakness and bleeding. Normally, these symptoms generally subside within a week after injection.
